WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has told some of his allies in recent days that he’s considering replacing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to two people familiar with the discussions. Trump had asked these allies in the run-up to Tuesday’s elections who they think should succeed Hegseth, these people told NBC News.

The president’s approval rating dropped among voters, who have big concerns about the economy, according to early polling results.
